The word Geography
was first used by Greek Mathematician called
Eratosthenes. He formed it from two Greek words;
geo which means the earth and ghaphien
which means to draw, describe or write
The two words formed the word geographienwhich means to draw,describe or write about the earth.This word was later accepted into the
English language as

Geography can be defined as the scientific study of the earth as a home
to humankind. It can also be defined as the
study of the distribution of
natural and human phenomena on the earth's surface and how they
relate to each other. These definitions show that geography is a science
that studies the earth as the environment of humankind. The word

rd in which people, animals and plants live,
and their surroundings
These surroundings affect an organism's behaviour or activities. The organisms can be a plant, animal or human being
